Long ago there was a hunter who was always having bad luck. The other hunters always brought back deer, but every time he came close to a deer, something would happen to keep him from bringing it down. The man finally decided to go far into the swamps. Many deer were there and the hunter was determined to get one. The hunter came to a place in the swamp that had once been a deep pool. An alligator was lying on the sand. It was almost dead. The alligator asked if there was water nearby. The man said that a deep pool of water was in a place that was not far away.
